MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA-(7-1-2003) Racing was abandoned on Port Phillip Bay today for the final races of the Sail Melbourne Warm-Up Regatta for the Europe, Finn and Yngling championships, hosted by Royal Brighton YC in Victoria.
As nine races have been sailed, Race Organisers called it a day, leaving yesterday's scores as a final result.
These results leave Sydney's Nicky Bethwaite/Kate McHugh/Kristin Kosmala the winners in the Yngling keelboat with 9 points after two race drops, from Melbourne's world ranked No. 2 trio, Melanie Dennison/Fiona Herbert/Caroline Aders with 11 points.
Alesha Thorpe/Karen Lambert/Michelle Vinsen (NZL) put up a good fight to finish 3rd with 20 points.
It had been reported in earlier releases that Thorpe was representing Australia - for which we offer our apologies, as she and her crew are in fact New Zealand's top chance for Olympic selection and we wish them all the best.
Carolijn Brouwer (NDL) on 10 points has won the Europe class from Victoria's Sarah Blank with 12 points. Sarah Macky (NZL) has taken 3rd place with 17.
These three will be worth watching at the Sail Melbourne Invited & Olympic classes due to start on January 11. The competition was fierce at Brighton, the top four finish times so close, it mostly came down to seconds between them.
After three straight wins yesterday, Anthony Nossiter (AUS), has won the Finn class with 10 points. Pascal Rambeau (FRA) is 2nd on 17 points, with Christoph Burger (SUI), 3rd on countback with 20 points.
Josh Beaver (AUS) finished 4th and Paul McKenzie (AUS) 5th after a tied situation with Burger.
